Come and Rest
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Jesus' invitation has only one qualification: be tired. Not good enough, not cleaned up, not certain — just weary and weighed down. If that describes you, the invitation has your name on it.
A yoke was a wooden frame that joined two animals so they could share a load. Jesus doesn't promise a life with no load at all. He offers to carry it with you — and to teach you a different way of walking. "Learn of me," He says. The rest He gives isn't only a nap; it is a new way of living under a gentle Master.
Many of us carry burdens Jesus never handed us: the need to prove ourselves, to control outcomes, to be everything for everyone. His yoke is "easy" not because life is easy, but because He is "meek and lowly in heart." He is not harsh with you. He is not disappointed in you. He is gentle.
Coming to Jesus is not a one-time event; it is a daily practice. Each morning you can bring Him what you're carrying and trade it for what He offers.
What would it look like to come to Him today — honestly, as you are?
Pray
Jesus, I'm tired. I bring You what I've been carrying. Teach me Your gentle way and give my soul rest.
Reflect & discuss
What burden are you carrying that Jesus never asked you to carry?
Bring this to your tether partner or small group this week.
